This one goes right to my heart - I'm a devoted Lab owner for many years. They are wonderful companions and you've captured this one very well.

Aha! So maybe that's what brought you to my photo of the three-men-and-a-dog converation? Your comment (thank you) brought me to your portfolio. I think I see a similar choice of subjects and scenes. I'm off to help with our office removal right now, but I'll be back to take a longer look around...

Gotcha... Sorry if I jumped the gun... it just seemed like you didn't want a critique.. I understand where you are coming from!

No, it's me who should apoligize Kim! I do appreciate your comments and you are right! It's just that with the dog pictures I have to shoot quickly...so really good shots are rare!

From your bio I thought that you wanted comments on how to improve. Sorry for the comments then.

Kim,I'm a petsitter and take snap shots of my clients for our web site. I can't spend much time fooling with the camera because, that's not what they are paying me to do! Kaiser is the most patient of the 3 in this particular household...but not all that patient! And he NEVER sits!

I think that a little deeper DOF would be nice here to pull the nose into focus as well. Kaiser seems to be a relaxed Lab and probably will sit there for you for a few minutes while you adjust your aperture to get the whole face in focus. It's nice to have a dog that will be patient while learning! I have two Goldens, one that is super patient, and the other that I take out the camera and she gone, running, sniffing, never holding still for a moment, unless I force her (and those pictures always turn out with an expression on her face like "Are we finished yet?")
I like the framing that you have here, as Kaiser's head fills the frame and the eyes are both looking into the camera. The DOF for the background is nice blurry. I'm not sure what you were shooting at here, but try taking 2-3 shots with different apertures... I like taking my dog pictures around f3.5 - f5.6 depending on how close I am. This way I mostly get sharp faces and blurred bg.
Have fun!
