About Last night I was part of an emotional event for breast cancer awareness. 11,500 women wearing pink ponchos stood together on the MCG (our footy stadium) before the game to represent the number of women in Australia diagnosed in the past year.

Powerful images. Terrible disease. The sea of pink ponchos is an affecting image, gives an idea of the scale of the event and scale of the tragedy (an emotional evening no doubt). A relative of mine was lucky to have survived it also. Cancer Research is a worthy cause that benefits us all.

BTW, you are a skilled photographer with a good range of subjects and use of natural light. Thanks for your comments.

It is a shame that so many lives should be wasted by something that is preventable. It is a shame that we are not educated to put aside factory farmed food, foods from unhealthy animals and poisoned earth. It is a shame we do not go back to the way we used to eat before these illnesses began to become so prominent in western society.

Thank you for looking Andree, I really like the second one also. That particular group of women appear to have been through so much, and also seemed stronger for it.

So true Jase, and I'm happy I was involved...I'm sending a disc with my shots to the foundation and have joined their volunteer group.

Nice human interest journalistic shot. I love the second shot. The older woman's expression is very strong and captivates the heart. Good job and thanks for sharing. Andree

Very good reporting Peta, the numbers are staggering; try to think about the number of people around them that is affected... How many families suffer... It's an epidemic.

Glad you were there to shake us back into reality.

Cheers!

Francisco

Cool event, and nice photos. I like your original post because it gives a sense of the numbers, but without faces, it is easier for the viewer to remain "outside." Your comment post with the faces, shows the viewer that these are real woman - they could be the viewer, or the viewer's mother, wife, sister, daughter. Nice pair of images documenting the event. -- Naomi

Thank you Ferdinand, it was a moving experience. The woman all around me were in tears watching dedications to those who had not survived the disease.

More than 50% of the women involved were survivors.
