I like the angle - it makes me wonder what he is looking at, thinking about... I sympatize a little with Svend's comment but jazz is also about breaking rules - leaving you a lot of latitude to do whatever works...

Hmmmm. I don't know, but if the subject is jazz then the thing to shoot for in a CD cover has to be coolness. I don't think this picture is very... cool. He looks kind of dorky and he's kind of lost in space. If jazz is about spontaneously creative improvisation, the photograph should be about that too. Tall order. I love the Blue Note vinyl covers of the 50s and 60s -- each and every one so incredibly cool and memorable. My favourite is the Blue Train cover, with Coltrane in pensive thought cast in blue. Pardon me, I'm not being helpful at all... Rgds, Svend

Hi Mikael, I hope to hasn't been too strong with my comment ;)
:))))
The background is really strange, it really seems to be copy and pasted later, a little bit unnatural. Can you ask him to to take a picture where he looks into the camera and the camera is a little bit over his head? You could give more emphasis to the expression of the eyes and the face.
... ok , if you will not use this format for him remember to use it when I'll ask you to do the cover for my CD (but first I've to start to study music so wait for the next 20 years :))))))) )

BTW , how's the family? Bigger? :)

Giuliano! It's for a cd-cover so it better be square.. :-) I havent done anything with the background except using a large apperture. An art director will add the text later on. I'm also thinking of adding the to other musicians in the background for the real shot.
Thanks all for comments!! :-D /Mikael

Bleaaah! ;)
Why the square format? ...still thinkung in Hass way? ;)
:))))
In my opinion the background is not naturally unfocused (too much). The guy is in a perfect composition for a photo but I would prefer to see him more closer (bigger size) and a little bit more on the topand on the right. How do you think to add the text?

Mikael, this shot has a perfect composition, indeed it is the "composition" that catch the eyes. the D.O.F has choosen by photographer, carefully. there is enough attention to the lowre right , where the man is looking some things out of the shot. very powerful combine. you realy have amazing portfolio Mikael, i would glad to follow your works, so added to my friends.

Hi Mikael, he's inspired like he would listening the far music. I think that the model could be the classic "jazz man", lover of your saxsophone! I like it.
