I know you know how much I apreciate what happens in pictures such as this Roger? the Walker Evans connection yes ?! But also because what happens when one ?steals? images like this says as much about the photographer as the picture itself. ( a case could be made to allow only sensitive, respectfull photographers, artists with elegant minds the only citizens allowed license to carry mini cameras). A multiple, cross referentional test could be written to determine one?s eligibility? Anyway, I feel you?d qualify !
Audrey Reid is right. What I mean is she?s right because she agrees with me? I?m just kidding? but she IS right in the same way Evans was right long ago: subway shots work best in B&W.
I took the liberty for the enclose ?alteration? ? and hope for no hard feelings?

If you are ever in Tokyo again we must get together. Most of these young people are held in the vice-like grip of peer pressure and the latest fashions. No wonder they tend to hide their individuality behind look-alike clothing and accessories...

Roger, this shot brought a smile:) I was in Tokyo recently and saw many of the same girls, especially on Sundays. Looking at this image, I wonder how different this might be if converted to B&W? But a tour round your portfolio I see you prefer colour? PS - thank you for your kind words on my post. I will post more soon when time allows.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for your kind words and comments. I also love taking pictures on the trains here in London. Check out http://www.usefilm.com/image/510106.html, for example.
It seems all over the world ladies love doing their make-up whilst in the train. You captured the moment very well here.
I know just what your son is saying. I feel incredibly self-conscious when taking these pictures. "What will people think?" --- that I'm some kind of pervert, perhaps.
I think so long as the pictures are respectful of the subject and so long as one isn't making fun of or exploiting the subjects, it should be OK. But you never know how other people will react. I guess the uncertainty is part of the thrill.
There is actually a group in the UK that want to force camera phone manufacturers to have their cameras *ALWAYS* fire a flash or make a noise when you use the camera...

Maybe they were both taking pictures of you, Roger! A make-up tin with a built in 5 mp camera, perhaps?! Who knows, these days!! Nice candid, as ever, Best regards, Chris

Hmm. The auto focus here has been distracted by all those bags the girl on the left loaded herself up with, so it's not as sharp as they CAN be. You might be interested to learn that it took me three tries to get acceptable sharpness. I complained, they said "nothing was wrong" but it came back with MUCH sharper focus. Unfortunately it then slipped back into poor focus along the RH third of every image after a week or so. At that, I had the entire camera replaced, and have had no trouble since. I call this the squeaky wheel phenomenon. You know, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"?

Your phone images are remarkably sharp. They must have better cameras built into the phones in Japan than here. The anti-camera nazis are on the prowl here too.
