Thanks Fred, appreciate you taken the time to provide the info. I will definitely look at something as a few of the local wild life refuges have little off road access and I shoot out of a window quite often
Regards Gary

Gary; Some sort of beanbag or sandbag makes for an excellent vibration dampener as well as insulation from the abrasive edge of the glass or whatever it's resting on. I use a soft weightlifter's wrist weight which is filled with very fine sand and isn't too bulky. Many photographers make their own bags and fill them with some sort of grain or bean type as they are lighter than sand but work very well. Most of the online photo sites will have some it you do a search.

The sand bag sounds like a good idea. Is this something you made yourself or is it commercially available (excuse my ignorance if it is common practice)

Jason: You win some, you lose some. It's mostly a looser crop. The original isn't as intense until you can examine it at a larger size than the internet allows.

Gary: The 500mm lens and a 2x TCII were lent to me by Canon USA last fall. It seemed to be a sharp copy and readily outperformed my 100-400L. This shot was made using my 1.4x TCII on the 500. That combination was amazingly good. Now, if I could only stop my hands from shaking while handholding the 500mm monster. This was braced on a sandbagged automobile window edge so it was sharp.
