Very nice the symmetry, lighting and tones are just right IMO. Shadow correction as performed by Zafar is easily done, but I relly like the dim atmosphere here. Sky is blown-out, a grad ND filter would have been useful at the outset, or a gradient layer mask in PS afterwards

Hi Gayle! Thanks ever so much! It is all the more special on this one because my mom gave a well articulated opinion; it is art and we have our opinions and I really welcome all of them. I always want to raise my game to a new level. But you are right on the good month thing...I am just elated about this site and the award amongst people I so very much admire...and you are no exception to that; you have great work!

Rob - The symmetry is very nice - the composition made me look first the arch in the foreground and follow it to the furthest back. I also like the shadows. -- Debby

Rob, the way things tend to lean is to do with the converging verticals, - I don't know what programme you have, but will say how I amend - if you have any queries please come back to me,
Go to Select: - All. Then go to Edit: Transform: the drop down has quite a few options. If you play about with skew, perspective, [distort to a lesser degree] you can straighten things up, or make them lean more etc. Hope this helps

Thanks Zafar! I have a lot to learn about PS and so many things within it! :) I will have to take a class so that I can learn. I have someone I like a lot teaching me about it...I am however a slow learner. LOL thanks again!

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique I really love the original photo as it conveys an old and weathered but timeless structure, and from the sky in the original photo it appears to have been taken on a typical overcast day in England. The structure itself overshadows the walkway, and it would seem to me that the details of the rocks and the walkway would be hazy and muted considering the structure and the weather. At least all of the ancient structures that I have visited over in England on a overcast and/or rainy day looked more like Rob's original. However, bringing out the details and lightening the photo does give someone a better idea of the various colors of the stones, and what it would be like to walk down this particular pathway on a bright day.

Hi Rob you are most welcome. All I did was just a quick curves adjustment. That can be done easily by adjusting the tolerance levels of highlights, midtones and shadows. A simple adjustment markedly improves the detail in the photo. I intentionally did not do anything with the sky as it would have changed the mood of the photo although adding clouds and sky will make the photo more dramatic but IMHO it will look a little un-natural.

Kind regards.

Zafar...I love what you did with the picture! I have so much to learn with PS. What did you do to make it pop like that?

Margaret Sturgess   {K:49403} 4/19/2005
Great shot, you get the feeling of going through it. In this sort of shot you usually need the adjust the converging vertical, have had a quick straighten up and added some blue for the sky. See if you like

Excellent composition of this grande architecture. Lovely perspective of shot. The shadows are lacking the detail a bit. I think in these shooting circumstances the overexposed sky is unavoidable actually it also gives a feeling and presence of unseen light too. Overall and excellent photo preserving the detail of this magnificient place.

Kind regards
