About Moving from the shadow and reflection to the light source, itself. Shutter held at 8 seconds at f8, manual focus, with a polarizer and ND filters. A 'Mr. Incredibles' flashlight was diffused with a self-adhesive, clear plastic 1" door bumper. The flashlight was then swung around two candle holders, each with a red rubber ball inside. Then it was slightly toned with Photoshop 'variations'.

The effect is used and seen in so many places. One of the early Stargate SG-1 episodes used it as a special effect for an 'ascension'.

James, the shutter was dragged, and the light sources were moved. I explain in more detail at my scenic-route.com, Photos, Glass, and there's a Note.

Nice job. Don't know how I missed these. I'm confused though. Was the camera stationary and the flashlight moving? That's what it looks like, but your About seems to suggest something different.

Laura, no just the flashlight. Other photos used more than one flashlight before the shutter closed, and other background lights. But this was just the 'Mr. Incredibles' with a 'diffuser', held in places, waved around in others.

Hi Joe,

Great shot - I can see that this required a lot of preparation and forethought. Just curious - was there any other lighting in addition to the flashlight?

Congratulations on your Usefilm award and your portfolio of wonderful images.
