Nice capture, I agree that a little more space around the canon would be nice but I really like this photo! Great tones!

Hey Steven - I've never been there either. I did go to the Aimes Plantation Festival once and they had reinacters there. That was really weird to me, it's kind of strange how people get into all that. I can definitely see how having more space to the right would help, it'd just mean having to clone another scene in maybe to avoid what's there in real life :) I used PSP9 and I think these are the things I did to this photo: 1. Clarify 2. Sharpen More 3. Tweaked brightness and contrast (I don't remember how much but I wanted to blow out some of that real estate office in the back and this made the tree branches stand out more, maybe 40/40). 4. Sepia Toned about 40 5. Added handpitched? texture 6. Added coarse paper texture. Whew...think that's it :)

You really did a great job not only photographing this and the perspective but the PS work you did makes this look like a vintage Civil War photo. Do you remember what you did ? do you PS or Elements or another program? ALso I was going tc comment on the cropping but i see that has been addressed and explained, SO you cropped out what had to be. Shiloh might be an interesting place to go I have not gone there myself.

Oh! And I forgot to say...now I am going to laugh every time I see this photo - I completely see the "catalogue" image now...ahhh, you ruined it for me -lol! Thanks again for your honest comments and helpful advice.

Hi Giuliano! Thanks so much for the suggestion - critiques are always welcomed (the only way I can improve :) I did crop this photo very tight - mostly because what is behind and to the sides is very distracting to the viewer. A real estate agency and their sign is seen immediatly to the left and to the right is the monument plaque for the former mayor as well as a busy street. Not really conducive to the mood. Shiloh National Park is about a couple hour drive from here, I think there is some old stuff there I might try photographing sometime and that is in it's natural element instead of placed in the middle of a town square. I can definitely add space to those pictures! Thanks again, always looking for good suggestions.

Hello Andrea, you asked a suggestion so don't hate me if I'm too critic ;) Tones and texture are very nice but I would prefer to see more "space" around the cannon expecially on the right and on the top. This very close image seems coming from a catalogue of army (deliveries in 24 hours, satisfied or refund ! :))) ). This composition gives too much emphasys to the cannon as an object and not at the sense of the cannon (war) and the sensations you can feel from it (scary, noise, power, etc.).
At the end I give you 7 anyway because the acceptance of the critics in a positive way is a talent that have to be awarded ;)
Bye

I had forgotten how many of the Canon's are Rebels - lol. Thanks Evelyn, Pat and Mark. It's strange how southerner's will memoralize someone. This cannon is a monument to a former mayor that just died a year or 2 ago- has his face in a golden image and brief bio on a plaque in front of it - lol.

Textures are fun with a photo like this one. Looks good! Like the sepia with it, too. Evelyn
