Thank you for the comment Mary! For all who are interested, here is a closer study of the flower. I was intrigued by the comments to have a closer look myself so brought it in for some one on one macros. Have a look

Not the usual flower photograph. However, it does make a statement about perseverence and has a beauty of its own.

Thanks Kevin! Most appreciated the comment about "fresh way to look at floral photography". In my own collection I have 100's of flowers from each Spring, even though slightly different, they are always the same flowers. I feel very fortunate to see this lonely "flower".

Thank you Christine. I was outside today looking at all the flowers coming up for spring and there was this lonely remnant of last year. I was truly amazed that it was still clinging on after all the storms we've had. It has its own beauty.

very interesting shot, Martin. very detailed and sharp. I like the lacy quality to the dried up old remnant of the flower.
