About
We spent a few days in Cleveland, Ohio and stayed at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade. A beautiful building from the late 1890's recently completely renovated. Part of the roof steel construction was a set steel beams with golden figure ornaments (fantasy animals). This photo was taken at sunset.
Picture details: Exposure 1/15, aperture 3.5, focal length 18mm, no flash, no tripod.
Thank you, Mike. Maybe I never really learned to do flash photography right, or I never had the right equipment. But I try to stay away from flash. I know the D70 can do some amazing things with fill flashes (maybe I should really sign up for these Nikon School classes they offer all the time), but I have the tendency to rather go up in speed (ISO) or tolerate slower shutters in order not to have to use the flash.
You obviously have a fairly steady hand at 1/15, your 2.8 would have helped there, It is fairly sharp throughout the photo. Nice capture in those conditions! I think your NOT using the flash gave the scene a more natural and warm feel. Nice.
Gargoyles are usually on the exterior of a building, not the interior... Very neat shot of an obviously beautiful building. I think your timing helped as well. Evelyn
