About This is certainly not one of my best shots, but I wanted to share it with you anyway.

This is a Golden Orb spider. It was extremely difficult to focus on this spider as its web surrounded it quite thickly by a couple of feet in all directions. The sun was high and there was quite a lot of scrub behind it. I managed to get this angle where you could see the spider and its family. To give you an indication on its size, the butterfly it is eating is a couple of inches long.

These spiders were everywhere you looked and I ended up becoming entangled in their webs. They move very quickly so it wasn't a pleasant situation.

I was quite taken with their colours and I hope you enjoy this one anyway.

A wonderful macro Judi. I have read the comments to you, and the comments from you, and I must agree with most that this is not a subject I would be happy with in the vicinity. You are one gutsy lady...meant in the most complimentary terms. This is an outstanding capture. Tho I think I prefer to see you shooting your children in the sunset. Having said all that..if you feel you are running out of spiders to shoot please feel free to use my share :-) Best wishes, Larry

Fantastic shot.
Spiders creep me out, but I find them so interesting.

Yes, I agree with you there. Whilst we have beauty we also have danger. But that is so similiar to women. They are beautiful...but they have a sting...or as they call it....spunk.

Judi,

Beautiful image of a macabre scene ! Photos can and do lie - don't they.

Feel sorry for the delicate butterfly - it never harm a thing to deserve this fate. But then - thats life, I suppose.

Very well composed.

regards,
ken.

Thankyou so much. To be honest, I didn't see the little ones at the time of taking the photograph because the sun was so glary. When I checked the preview a couple of minutes later, I then realised they were there. So it was a bonus.

I think I was more concerned at the time in avoiding that web.
