About Subject background: Times Square meets Gotham City... my personal, alternative vision of this crowded place, supported from PS.

PS concept: Base layer is a pseudo-IR version, the background layer is color and blended with the option "light points". this combination creates the rather weird color spot setup here. no manual colorization. hope you like the outcome.

as always: honest feedback highly appreciated

Hi Ben,

unfortunately, I don't find the original image at the moment. but the actions are quite obvious.

make a base layer picture with BW high contrasts. I used some filtering actions for PS.

make a background color layer from the picture with a high saturation.

then blend the background with "light points" (not sure if this is the right word, at least this is the meaning in German ) and check the transparency.

that's it.

Hi Andre,

thanks a lot for the review ;-)

I've heard that Sin City is kind of brutal... but I will definitely go for the movie when it comes out in Germany.

take care,

thilo

Hi Thilo,
Yes! You will have to see "Sin City!" I went to see it last night. I must warn you that it is extremely violent. But, everything you have heard about the graphic effects is true. The film is visually stunning. At first I thought the B&W was a little too harsh. Kind of like the whites were too bright. But after a few minutes I became accustomed to it. The colourizing effects are very well done and not used too much. This effect seems to work particullarly well in scenes with the classic automobiles. I think because this film is based on a graphic novel, thousands of the scenes are almost like a series of still photos. Thousands of wonderful images. As I said before though, NOT a family movie by any means. I will be going back again next week with my brother to see it again.

Hi Thilo,
Yes, I really do like this kind of thing. I did try a little colourizing with the lasso and selectively adding colour. I was pleased with the results. But they were nothing like this. Interesting that you should name this "Gotham City" as there is a film out this weekend that uses a similar effect with selective colourizing called "Sin City" (also based on a graphic novel)

magical. Nice artistic touch. Very sharp but dramaticly blur at some points which gives me the feeling of a ghost city. Keep up the good work friend.

Hi Giorgio,

there are PS filter out there that simulate a BW IR effect. this results in strong contrasts.

best wishes and thanks for the kind feedback,
