About
This is a breeding pair of hawks I have been trying to capture for the longest time. They finally settled long enough for them to get a look at me. Stay tuned for more.
Brendon, thanks for the tips. This was one of those few and far between opportunities. I heard the birds before I saw them and had to run in and grab my camera. I put it on action mode because I usually catch them flying above the trees and I usually get them when they are too high to get a really good shot. This time they surprised me by sitting in the trees. I snapped off a couple of quick shots before they flew off again. But I will take in to consideration the use of the tripod and remote release.
If possible, don't use full zoom (290mm is recommended), use a tripod, shutter release cable, and f/8 or smaller. Watch your shutter speed. If the birds are not moving, 1/250 should be fine.
