Thanks Antonia. I think that you commented on a similar shot, called "For Maria". I have many of the same tree, both in colour and B+W. One of the advantages of film according to "Outdoor Photographer" magazine is it's increased dynamic range over digital. This is especially important in B+W photography where you are relying on the fange of greys not colours. That is why I tend to use my D70 for colour work, and my F80 for B+W. Thanks again Toni, I really appreciate the support you have given me. I look forward to asking you for help with my portrait work if I decide to go that direction in the future.

p.s. must add that the tonal range and the silohuette of the spindly tree against the silver sky are wonderful.

Thought for sure I'd commented on this one before...but don't see it. So sorry. It is fantastic! From the textures on the fence to the angle of it and the tree...it's delight. Congrats on the featured critique. Antonia

Very nice. I love that composition, the way the tree just sticks up into the quiet sky. Very cool B&W.

Thanks Mark, I really appreciate your input. This is one of my personal favs, though I never actually have been able to verbalize why. Your comment has made me consider that it is the diagonal of the fence, that makes the composition stronger.

Lovely piece, Richard. I'm drawn to the diagonals and tones. And there is enough going on in the sky portion to interact with the earth.

Thanks Fadel, this is one of my favourite subjects. I am always inspired when I am on top of the Escarpment.

Thanks Rebecca. I am experimenting with levels in Photoshop quite a bit these days. It is an amazing tool.

Thanks Michael. This shot is one of a series of shots, taken the same day using some of the ideas you suggested. I have posted others in the series, and may post more in the future.

Thanks for the comment Stephen, I have not tried it (Fuji Neopan)yet. My 2 favourites are Kodak Tri-X, and Plus-X, with BW400CN as a C-41 alternative. Some day I will try the Fuji, but first maybe Agfa. I have seen some great results.

oh.. that little tree?s sillouete stand out against the sky so nicely that immediately draws all attention... this one, is not as "crowded" composition as the previous one but i like the intense feeling of steepness of the hill and how the tree is grabed to it... well done again Richard... emy :)

I love the way the fence stands out in this one. Isn't it amazing how no two shots are the same, of the same subject. I think it's the dof here that grabs me.

I like the composition. It would be nice if more of the foreground and background detail stood out (it looks like there's some nice stuff there); maybe some brightness/contrast or similar adjustment? On the other hand, if you wanted to go for the silhouette, then maybe less detail should show. Then again, maybe I've got bad light on my monitor---though I did color calibrate it. In any case, it's a nice shot..:)

This works for me. Nice work... good use of the orange filter... better than red in this situation... have you ever tried using Fuji Neopan? It's nice stuff!!!
