jennifer, i'm siting here trying to explain how this makes me feel. there is an immediate emotional response but it's hard to describe in words. sad yet hopeful? melancholy? not sure it's either but somewhere in between. this feeling is driven in large part by the silhoutted flowers in the fore. sitting and watching. waiting for the hand of god to find and touch them. excellent choice for b&w, btw. i'm not sure i would get the same response from a color photograph. very well done!
take care, tom
ps - this is precisely why i got a tivo ;^)

Jennifer:
I have a walkthrough on Usefilm. Selecting the quick mask mode and other nifty stuff is in the entire thread.

hi Michael - thanks so much for your advice. The photo you resubmitted looks great, it sings out a lot more than my original. I don't know about this "quick mask" tool...is it on the tool bar in PS? I have been using the lasso tool & then feathering the heck out of it to try & avoid the obvious line division that happens but i don't have the kind of success that your image shows. I'd love to learn/know more about the quick mask if you ever have a moment to get back to me. Otherwise, i guess i could just google it to find the info. Anyhow, thank you so much for the suggestion - it's going to help me a lot in the future.
all the best & thanks again - jennifer

Poof! Ping!
(Use quick mask to seperate the sky and the water - then apply levels for more contrast and a pure white and pure black)
Really strong composition, I like the silouette of the foreground flowers and brush, and the high drama from the sky.

a nice b/w the scene is freezed by the simmetric capture: was it your intention? otherways making the choice of showing mainly the sky OR the water would improve the strenght of the picture. i miss your body studies pietro

hi john - yes, i have the feeling these days that i must have done something right in my life to get to be living here now, at this point in my life. It's a gloriously quiet place to be - filled with so much natural beauty. It's been 2 months since i've been back & i wake up feeling grateful everyday. :O) Sometimes, every very now & then, life works like that...

hi Ole - i almost did submit this one with a blue'ish tint but decided to try the straight b&w for a bit of a change for me. Here's the tinted one i worked on...what do you think? Personally, i think the tint actually helps to bring out some of the details in the shot as well as add some more drama. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
