I think you have the eye for moody images, but the lighting was not favorable here. Even with a great camera, like the D70, unless you chance upon it, sometimes a little post editing is all these things need. In my humble opinion, the stones sitting alone on the edge of the graveyard, is great. But you have no dappled lighting, etc, to make them take on a life. I added a quick version of this, hope you don't mind. All I did was add a little omni lighting at the base of the stones.
