About In about a month or so there will tens of thousands of these beautiful birds in attendance here. On the day this was shot, there were only a few dozen. This group of 17 decided to go out into the surrounding grain fields to feed.

Jon: As a matter of fact, Snow Geese are doing so well that they are considering altering the hunting seasons so as to enable more harvesting of them. The East Coast is so overrun with them that they are trying to work out something to cut the numbers besides hunting. The Chesapeake Flyway is swamped every year when the Snow and Ross Geese come through. This particular location ends up holding more than 20,000 of them through the winter and it's just a small fraction of the places they winter over. Thanks for your comments, they are appreciated.

Lovely shot Fred. We have Trumpeter Swans around here, but there appears to have been a large kill off. Hope the same isn't happening with your feathered friends.

Great shot Fred. As Dave says, they stand out against the background nicely. If they'd been against the sky it would have lost the impact. Your Canon handles ISO 800 fabulously.
