About OK, so it's only a garter snake. He sure looked mad. I know it's a little noisy in the background, but my light was very limited where this little guy was and I had to increase the light in PS.

I am glad that it was you behind the camera and not me. Snakes, poisonous or not, do not agree with me...LOL!! Great capture.

Still turned out pretty good. Colors are great as is it's pose. You better make sure it's just a Garter or we may be looking at your last picture. Regards, Art.

YIKES!!!! You got in closer than I sould have! I would have used a VERY large telephoto lense and stayed back! Even with a garter snake!!
Great shot, Mark!

Nice shot. Look to apature priority when you know that DOF might be a factor.

A fantastic macro Mark noise and all! I like these extremem close ups, and even if he is only a garter snake as you say, he still has teeth! :)

You are getting WAY too close to a snake for me Mark. I would prefer to look at this kind of subject thru a telephoto lens :-) Nice shot.

Hi Mark, Check the focus light in the viewfinder. If that is not locked in focus the camera will not fire. Don.

given the conditions very good, I would have been running away, so would never get a shot like this

Thanks for the comment, Don. I was using my new macro lens and really struggled with it. It wouldn't pop the flash. I had to do a lot of messing with settings just to get the shutter to fire. I need to read up a bit more on using macro on low light. I also need to go through all my settings to make sure I haven't got something set wrong.

Mark, you like to get closer to these than I do. I and snakes don't get along well. I have walked over some rattlers and am now a little reluctant to like any kind of snake. This is very nice. He does look ready for you. Maybe you could have popped him with the flash if the light was low. Don.

Thanks for the comment, Dave. The funny thing is that at it's widest point, that snake was only about as big around as my index finger.

Still looks pretty menacing, Mark! Nice catch, and the DOFis perfect.
Dave.
