About I just got this new (used) 500mm lens and had to try it out during my son?s soccer match that day. I know I should have mounted it on a tripod, but I thought what could go wrong at ISO 1600 and 1/1250s exposure?

Now, 500mm on the D70 makes a pretty impressive magnification. Consequently, it was pretty hard to keep even one person entirely in the picture, let alone a group. While I was able to capture great game moves with the camera?s continuous shooting mode, the pictures jumped all over the place.

Hopefully the slide film simulation salvages a few of the shots.

Picture details: Exposure 1/1250s, aperture 8.0 (fixed), focal length 500mm, ISO 1600, no flash, no tripod.

Like always. Comments, feedback, and ratings are highly appreciated.

Nicely captured and presented. I also like the framing and sequence. Thanks for your comments and thanks for sharing these shots.

I have to admit that he missed a "one on one". This was the opposing team's goal keeper.

He missed a "one on one"? Or is that his own goal keeper? But great experimenting with your toys (fast films, good lens etc).
Cheers,
Ben

This was a "lessons of life" game. While my son?s team dominated the game and they spent 95% of the time pretty much directly in front of the opposing team?s goal and had more than twenty dramatic goal shots, a moment of confusion allowed the other team to break free and score the only goal of the game. So they lost.

BTW. My son is the one in red.

I like the framing here. I shoot lots of pics of my kids soccer games, too, with only an 80-210 zoom and oftem wish I had 500mm. Maybe a 100-500 zoom would be ideal for these games. By the way, did your sons team win? Best wishes, Kurt
