About The title is a direct translation of the Japanese name of this place. The crowds were settling in early for a huge fireworks display planned for that evening. The bridge in the background is part of a bridge-and-tunnel complex that cuts right across Tokyo bay, linking to Chiba prefecture. Taken on colour neg. film and desaturated.

I totally agree with you on this one, Roger. The colour version is not at all bad but I think the B&W version has the edge.

Thanks for your kind comments on my recent photo's ~ much appreciated!

Best regards, Chris

Good composition Roger ! The 'black' trunk and the 'white' girl is well balanced.

Chromogenic films came along in the years I spent away from photography, and at first I loved them, particularly Ilford XP2 400. But now I use Fuji Superia colour neg. emulsions and convert to B&W as necessary. It isn't quite the same as the discipline of having to think exclusively in B&W when a monochrome film is loaded, but the end results are strictly coparable. Lovely tonal range and virtually complete freedom from gain effects.

A.T., you noticed? Good. Glad you liked it!

Hi, Debra. Unlike the US (July 4) and the UK (Nov. 5), the Japanese don't have a special day for fireworks. And hot summer nights are a favourite for the biggest and the best. You can catch half a dozen really great firework displays within easy reach of my home in July-August.

What a great spot to view the fireworks show... what do they shoot fireworks off to celebrate? I know its not the 4th of July.... is it...lol

I like how there's a bridge in the background, and also a bridge (curve) in the foreground in the form of the bench. Nicely done.

I remember when only the bento boxes were used when eating at sites like this.

Just like being there! The range of tones you have achieved is really good. At least on the computer monitor it's as good as the finest monochrome film and development.

That's really a nice one ! Superia 400 looks so perfect as B&W, I cannot believe it. Nice scene of japanese weekend life ?

Yes, we couldn't stay for the display, Chris; had to rendezvous with my friend's wife, who had wisely chosen to spend the day shopping rather than traipse around with THREE photographers. Here is the colour version. I prefer the B&W but the colour is not bad... What do you think?

Looks like a spectacular setting for a firework display, Roger!!
I can't imagine this could look any better in colour! It's ane excellent shot of everyday life in a busy city.
Kind regards, Chris
