About Took my niece out camera shooting the other day. I fixed her up with a camera and some basic rules. then I wandered off to see what kind of trouble I could get into. Found this guy chowing down on milkweed plants and got him just before he took off again.

Excellent Jim
I like the edge of the leaf as it gives a good line going across the image, enhancing the dof.
Crisp and well composed.

Jim, I agree with Lori that the oof area beneath the bug looks like a hand but that oof area really makes the picture. If you're inclined to 'play', maybe you could burn the lighter "jellybean" shape and the spot next to it just to minimize it. However, by my thinking (i.e. confused, opinionated, bullheaded), this is fine the way it is. It truly looks like this milkweed beetle is at the edge of the abyss!

WOW, what kind of bug is this? He's kind of cute, I think!!

Great clarity on him, good colors!!
I kind of find the bottom distracting, kind of looks like an out of focus hand, but really can't tell, maybe darking that part of the image would make the eye stay on the insect?!! Just my opinion..

But still, great photograph!!
And what did your niece manage to photograph? :)

Lori ;)

What a strange little bug! The perspective you took gave him personality. I wonder about seeing his pretty red back but then I think it's actually more of an active feel to see his face.

Nice macro Jim. The colours are great. It's an area of photography I'm just starting to appreciate and get the hang of after a lot of trial and error. Pics like this spur me on to improve. Thank you for your comments too.
