Chris, she will VERY SOON find better things than THAT to take with her new camera! Let her find her own subjects and (most of all) wait until SHE asks YOU for advice before giving her any. And who knows, she may be uploading original pictures to Usefilm before you can look around! Why not?

Thanks for your comment and note, Craig ~ I'm very much in agreement with your sentiments!

I love this site and have made some very good friends through using it. I must admit, I try to operate on a number of levels?
i. Take my photography seriously and aim to produce the best images I possibly can within my own limitations.
ii. Not take life TOO seriously and, therefore, not be afraid to be a little light-hearted with some of my 'abouts' and comments!
iii. Be an encourager of others, for without the encouragement I've received on this site I would not have made the progress I have.
iv. Appreciate my UF friends ~ i.e. those people who regularly take the time and make the effort to leave a comment, rather than just view the image and move on. And?
v. Not get offended by constructive criticism, for how else are we to improve.
Thanks for your friendship ~ it's a pleasure to see your work.
Best regards, Chris

A beautiful shot Chris! I love these old English cottages/houses. Your subject, comnposition, exposure and detail are all excellent. Again, well done!

It's good to hear that your wife must be doing well-- and what a wonderful present. I think she'll be surprised at how fun digital cameras can be. I got my wife one for Christmas and she's really enjoying it.

Calling me an "artist" is the highest praise you could give-- my sincerest thanks. As to cyber-space photo sites, I've come to the conclusion that getting lots of Ratings/comments has more to do with popularity and "playing the game" than with the actual quality of photos posted (by some), and I no longer want to play that game. I'd much rather get fewer, but more sincere, comments from respected peers and friends such as yourself than lots of "hollow" comments from those just looking for ratings in return. I'm enjoying photography now more than ever before. A quote by ME: "when you retire there are still just 24 hours in a day".

Your Friend, Craig.

Hey Chris, I suppose you've already got one of these beautiful cottages you keep showing us so what else could a girl want other than a digital camera. Hope Carole is well on the way to recovery and tell her we all expect some uploads following the steps of the master.
BTW it wasn't a D70 was it,was it!!!!!

I was led to you by Steven Bowden's remrak and your comment on his "Golden Hover Fly".
We have not met before this on the pages of usefilm, Mr. Spracklen. Your "Estate cottages, Stourhead" is typically English and reminds me of the time I spent in your beautiful country during the years 1969-70 and on brief visits later. I studied psychotherapy at the Tavistock clinic in London, althogh by that time I was already a specialist in psychiatry. Nevertheless, the year at the Tavistock (you may have heard of it) was a turning point in my career as a therapist and laid the foundation for a book I wrote and published recently, called "Dialogues with Schizophrenia - the Art of Psychotherapy". Despite it's name, the book deals with psychotherapy from many angles, including the therapists' feeling towards their clients (coutertransference) and the teaching of psychotheapy, supervision. Although psychoanalytic valid, it was wiritten with the interested non mental-health professionals also in mind. Two Usefilm members, neither mental- health professionals own the book and both told me that they found it interesting and easy to read. On the webpage on which it may be found, www.drspringmann.com there is a great deal of information that can be read for free before making up one's mind one way or another. It would be a pleasure for me to invite you to pay a visit to that webpage.
Regards,
DR. Rafael (Rafi) Springmann

You could always get her a usefilm subscription as Linn did for Robert ;-) And now you both have a camera each - that may entice Robert to buy Linn her own camera ... perhaps a Minolta Z2.
Super photo Chris

Aw Chris!!! Fabulous gift to me too! Thank you - and what a beautiful, beautiful cottage this is! Look at the bay window - isn't that just great? I can just imagine my Ragdolls sitting there, soaking in the English sun :-)))

Fabulous climbing roses - look at the lush green surrounding the house. Great image Chris - and thanks again :-)

Now on to poor Carole that has suddenly been turned into a photographer! :-)) You are a sly fox! :-)) Hopefully she will photograph you, photographing and I do hope she will post an image to UF. That will be one I will print and frame!

And what did YOU get for your anniversary?
