About Drove north last night after work to a Wild area. 20 Miles of dirt road where nobody lives. Saw this Beaver cruising in a pond and decided to see what kind of shot I could get. It had just rained and was dull and over cast. meter said 1/60th at F4,(spot) using the 300 MM F4 lens. After being eaten alive by skeeters, the animal got comfortable with my presence. On a very close pass I flipped up the on camera flash and got this shot. The flash did not spook him. The catchlight in his eye is from the flash.

The almost monochrome water as the background sure sets the beaver apart from everything else. Great capture Jim. Don. You have a very steady hand. I need a tripod for anything under 1/250th.

Hi Jim - really a fantastic capture, the light and the lines of the water in combination with the softness of the parts of the picture not in focus, makes this really outstanding.

Yes he slapped 2 times to show he was mildly put out, but he kept circling closer and closer till I finally got this shot. Of courseI was busy previwing my shots on te camera when he slapped and dove. With the light as weak as it was. Doubt i would have got a shot of it anyway, would have been a blur. jimc
