About This is The Manger, an amazing formation, partly natural and partly man made over more than 5000 years. Behind where the picture is taken is a 5000 year old hill fort, to the right is the White Horse of Uffington, the mound partly visible on the right is Dragon Hill where it is said Sir George slayed the dragon and saved England. Quite a history! About a mile from here is Waylands Smithy, an enormous burial mound where folk thought the God of War hammered out his armour. I had to wait for quite some time for a cloud of the right size to pass in front of the sun to place the valley bottom in shadow. This was my first attempt at focusing at the hyperfocal distance and it seems to have done a good job of putting the whole image in focus although the strong wind was blowing the foreground grass in any case.

Hi Barry; It really is an amazing shot as one viewer previously commented; but amazing is an understatement. I like the how the depression in the earth adds to the three-dimensional illusion. I'm both surprised and pleased at the lack of urban sprawl that's so common here where I live. This is everything on how a color photograph should be. My response to your question about the Panasonic Lumix is this: it produces images 95% on par with my 8 MP Olympus C8080. The lens exceeds the quality of the Olympus' glass, and that's why it can go side by side with the C8080. When I enlarge both images from both cameras, it's most apparent. Thank you for asking, and I apologize for not responding sooner. I have been living almost all of my time in my studies (a mid-life career change). Good day, and take care.

Excellent work Barry, I love the outdoor images that have the yellowish-green cast to the ground and deep blue skys, makes for an eye-catching color combonation.

Love it! Your eyes are led perfectly into the picture, and I feel as if I'm standing behind the camera.
