Chris, what a great picture. Your information makes it much more interesting. It appears that the bottom is rather solid and not as muddy as some.. Don.

I like the composition - placing the small lake as the focal and radial spikes of boats arround. I am not sure what PS work is in it - but looks nice.
PS - Chris, Good to see your own self photo. As plans to visit Ireland. Please give me a shout.
Regards, ken.

It's a very nice and interesting composition with lots of details to inspect! I saw the black lines straight away and wanted to say it looks like if you have drawn a very thin black line on everything. But I read in your comment now what you have done. Interesting, very creative!

I know what you mean, Roger, but this one really does look nice printed out. I knew it wouldn't be everybody's 'cup of tea', but I particularly like the lines and circular composition provided by the pool of water, the boats and their ropes. Having said that, I'm getting very frustrated waiting for my Nikon ~ at the moment, I've very little desire to take a photo! Which is probably a good thing as I'm extra busy right now!! Kind regards, Chris

"Trying" to be artistic? You couldn't NOT be artistic even if you tried... But I think you will get better results when your D100 comes back and (hopefully) you don't need to spend so much time in PhotoShop. Frankly, the colours look as if they have gone wrong somehow and been "saved" by a desperate rescue effort. But perhaps I read too much into this, knowing about the camera...

Hi Chris, well I never realised just how much effort you put into your post processing. I really appreciate you giving us your secret.
Now I look again, I can actually see the glowing edges and the elements you describe, but they were largely invisible before.
Its a very dramatic piece of work, and I've learnt something about composition from this image too.

Chris, I've many fond memories of Mousehole and my daughter is a great fan of the tale of the Mousehole Cat. This is a nice image even without the artistic elements but I really like the dynamism of the modified view.

A typical Spracklen image :-)) Colourful, extensive detail, great "about" (always love those!) and of course, that expert PS touch :-)
But Chris ... I must admit ... I miss your landscapes and cottages :-( I wish you would get your new toy back soon!

Hi Keith,
You're very perceptive as well as honest! Having adjusted the levels on this shot, (to compensate for the metering fault on my Nikon), and then boosted the saturation a little, (okay, a lot ~ for it IS, after all, a 'Spracklen'!), I used inverted, desaturated glowing edges on a duplicate layer to start the paint feel. (I then blended this layer with the background layer using the 'soft light' mode.)
Next, I duplicated the layer again and used the eliptical selection tool, set at a 3 to 2 ratio, to select most of the top layer. I then inverted the selection, feathered it by 100 pixels, and treated that bit with a zoom blur effect at around 25-30 pixels. before once again blending it, (this time using opacity), with the layer below!
To finish it all off, I merged the two layers, added a 55% sandstone texture, and then created the simple frame!!
So, you see, there IS a vignette effect ~ but it was nothing to do with the lens, it was something I created. And I have to say that the resulting print is lovely!!
Kind regards, Chris.

'mooozle', is the pronunciation i believe ;-)
Do you know what jumps off the sceen about this shot - the converging lines, all pointing to one spot in the harbour. Even the slopes behind the houses contribute to the effect. It really blows away the thirds rule doesn't it, but its very effective.
Maybe theres a feel of vignetting which I don't like so much but I can live with that. Ithink this is due to the shadows not the lens (hope so anyway). Also the colours are a bit rich for me, but its a Spracklen so I expect that ;-)
Good work.
Keith

Hi chris! This is an amazing photo. To see all those boats in the mud is really something! The tide must be very extreme here? Does all the water come in from that one spot? Thanks for the photo Chris! My best,JOHN
