your photos are all very good (you could teach others.Iwe have a cat but 2 years ago -3 years ago during a very cold winter someone must have left this cat to its own devises and it came to us .At first it was very nervouse but it eventualy settled down and we have looked after him (or her we are not sure ) ever since here is a photo of him/her (we call him smokey

Great colour and composition but agree about the paw. Really like the very hairy feel to the cat and the selective focus.
Regards,
Graham.

dear linn, thank you so much for all your kind and
instructive respose. it would surely help a lot to improve my photos from cats(the creature that i love most in my life), you had said that the angels will be going to their new home soon, how lucky the parents would be having them, some how i envy them! now after finding your web address, at least i can be happy to see lovely pictures, if not the very true self of them. please give the biggest possible hug to two angels before they leave!

Hi Elahe,
This cat is either daydreaming or focused on getting something...I like the daydreaming aspect of it.

Certainly looks like a well fed, satisfied pet! Very nice photo of him/her!!
Lori ;)

Elahe, remember that I have photographed my cats and kittens intensively for the past five years. I shot over 14 000 images of kittens during that period (old second-hand digital camera). Reason for that many pictures is that I send my kitten owners weekly pictures. No, I didn't have that many kittens, but for every reasonable or fairly good shot, I delete about ten.

Photographing a cat that does not want to be photographed is actually very easy. If he likes your company, go sit somewhere where the light is good and where you would like him to "pose". Don't do anything but sit and be patient. Keep an eye on him though because soon he will forget about you and the camera and then you can sneak in that one or two good shots.

I do this with my boy Billy. He hates his photograph taken and would rather turn his back to me, or come sit too close to me. When I pretend to be interested in something else, he will sit and watch and then I take the opportunity and capture him.

Just a couple more tips ... quickly wipe your hand over his face, forehead and body. Often they have a couple of loose hairs that the eye can't see. Once you get the shot, you might just be disappointed because there is a hair in the way, or some dirt or even a leaf stuck to the tail and it might be difficult to clone out. Remember to clean the eyes (and nose, if it is pink) - I cannot stand seeing a picture of a cat with snot, sores and crusties in the eyes. It doesn't give a good impression of the caretaker of the cat.

But most of all - be patient. Just act natural, as if you are not in the least interested in taking his photograph.

Linn

Your cat is performing a great modeling style. Yes, obviously he is in deep thinking here and does not wish to be interrupted. Very good shot Elahe! Cheers my friend.

dear linn, thank you very much for all your good advise about taking cat photos. that would help a lot specialy with a guy like "Romi" who hate to be bothered and taking picture of. i do have a son Pasha who is so sweet and love to pose for you exactly the way you wish, you might have seen his photos too. finaly i must admit what ever i try, i am still too far from your skill and your excellent photos.

Good Morning Elahe :-)

OK - it needs to be said so I am going to say it : It's a pity you didn't get the full paw into the image. There, no that is out the way :-)

Now - I love this image! The colour is great and you have captured the coat and whiskers in an expert way. Would I have cropped it more on the right? Maybe, maybe not. When shooting a cat, specially one that does not want to be photographed (and I have many of them!) that one or two good shots are all we get from a frustrating session :-)

What I also check when viewing a cat image - is the eyes. I so dislike it when there is a lot of "sleep" and "crusties" in the eyes. Just a wipe (or clone it out if you have to) will improve your image in a big way - a pet should also look healthy and clean. You have done well here.

I really like this cat - you can have a lot of fun with his colouring. Keep that camera close to you - one day you are going to catch him in a sunny position and you will be stunned by how the light will enhance his colouring.

Good work Elahe, and I am obviously thrilled to see a cat image from you :-)

Linn
