A bit of a story behind the shot.... Five us us chartered a boat in SE Alaska for two weeks to photograph whales. We spent most of our time working with humpback whales. A transient pod of orcas ("residents" eat fish, "transients" eat marine mammals) were in the area, and when ever we saw them we would follow them. We saw them kill several porpoises in the three encounters we had with them. On this occassion, we followed them and saw the chase. Dall porpoise are the fastest animal in the area; orcas have greater endurance. The five of us were crowded into the bow of the boat; all of us were professionals with 2 or 3 camera around our necks. This shot was literally my last shot in all three cameras....it's frame #37; the other two cameras had already been rewound, but I didn't have time to change film. As I was frantically changing film, the orca leaped into the air with the porpoise in her mouth. I looked at my companions, and all four of them shook their heads. None of us got that shot. I use this image on my business card.
