Rita, Wonderfull portrait of a wonderfull bird. Congratullations. Armando you are wrong, this is not a Harris, is a common bussard (Buteo buteo). Great job Rita. Ramon.

Rita, on further investigation, I find it is simply a matter of regional differences in term. In Britain, 'buzzard' refers to the common Buteo hawk, which indeed is what you'd photographed.
In the U.S., buzzard is used to refer to the Turkey Vulture. So, everyone's right! ;)
Thanks for sharing and sorry about the confusion.

Thank you Armando for your picture of the falcons, I bow to your knowledge of birds of prey. The next time I go to see the Falconer I will find out how or why I mixed up the species! He asked me to print out the pics to show him next time we go.........regards Rita

Rita: here i send to you a picture of a breed of aplomado falcon (Falco femoralis) that was born in my house. It is not very clear because they cannot be bothered when are with pigeons and I had to take it very quick.

Rita: Excellent pic, i dont remember if I counted i to you but I was a falconer for more than 30 years and now in my house, with my nephew, we have a reproduction center and rehabilitation of prey birds. The bird that you have photographed is a Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicintus). apparently is a male. congratulations

Um, Rita...that's a hawk. 'Buzzard' is a type of vulture, which almost always have clean head & necks. ;)
Beautiful shot, though!

Fantastic, Rita. The separation between the foreground and background is excellent and really makes this serious predator pop off the screen. Nicely done. Lou
