About Chinook Arch over Foothills, March 08, 2004 at 6:46;42 PM, plus 18.9 C !!!
observed in SW Calgary.
The Chinook is a natural phenomenon and has nothing to do with global warming or any human activities. This a natural warm wind coming from the tropical part of Pacific Ocean, flowing above the Rockies in British Columbia where the moisture is left behind. The wind then drops on the east slopes and mostly on Calgary and the surrounding region as a dry and warm wind.

Excellent photo with two horizonts which are made by land and the second by clouds. I like this effect.

Yes I heard of the winds they come down into Montana also from Canada. When our winds blow from the north over land is when it warms up here. Last 11 days in the 80's now they are saying we are going to have a mosquito problem from all the rain and hot weather. I thought the Nile was in Africa anyway they are worried about that virus. Excellent capture like the clouds and winds keep blowing warm until May.

Excellent quality! THe clarity at the sky at its best without noise or other technical problems. The shining like and the road gives nice fealling of depth of the field here. Good one! See you!

Rafal, thank you for the information about your wonderful photograph! I always like reading about either how a person created an image or about the site itself. I really like this photograph, it's beautiful. I especially like your choice of composition with the road and the inclusion the cars with headlights, it really give it perspective. Very nice work!

I'm browsing your portfolio since I was so impressed with the one I saw just today. Very impressive portfolio!

Lori :)

Beautiful, such a wonderful view for my eyes which have been accustomed to nothing but endless white snow lately. I have heard of the chinooks but have never had the pleasure of experiencing one.

Oh boy, do I remember chinooks. What a relief after a long period of cold... I always loved the arch-work in the skies too. Great shot! BTW, Rainy is in Penang and will return home at the end of the week ---> with a huge mittful of photos. Guess what? I will be back in Alberta at the end of this month -- in Banff for a week, then driving down to Lethbridge. I'm excited about spending some time photographing my "old stomping grounds".
