Sarah, I'm so glad you found a comment of mine constructive... and visited my portfolio. Thanks for your comment. You are right about that bright spot, and I think the other Roger was too, if you read his note about the red being a bit too strong. My face was also a bit red at having cut someone in half. [grin] You got me there! As you may have noticed, I tend to take very few portraits, and generally don't do too well (well, that's chicken and egg, of course). I'm really trying to learn how to do it well.
I like your Ibis. He's perfectly focused, although it looks as if he was towards the back of the DOF (the ground in front looks sharper). Lovely feather textures with those leathery red legs and beak. It would also go nicely into a "portrait" format, more closely cropped to the bird, as there isn't much going on in the background.
I'll take Sarah H's word that this is an Ibis. I know pheasants, chickens and turkeys, and maybe a heron or two, but that's the extent of my bird knowledge. I've never seen anything like this......you didn't PS the legs, did you? :) I like the blur to the background, and the way this is composed and presented. Good work, Sarah!!
ps you're making my head swell with all the comments...and, how's the class going? you should post some class projects, or in any event, just post more :)
Hey girl!!! :) Great shot, he's kinda cute! This is a White Ibis, they're brown when they're young and turn white as they get older. I really like how you've singled him out and blurred the background a bit. You can still get the sense of the setting.
