I like the concept here too, as you know. This is very different than the first, much more formally composed. I agree with the comments comparing it to an engraving....does have the look of an illustration. Good one again, Peta!!

Peta; a powerful and dramatic photograph-- also a mysterious quality here-- looks like something right out of "Wuthering Heights". Nice work-- love the lighting and toning. I'm sure you tried a little brighter presentation but decided on this darker more dramatic one to convey YOUR vision.

Beautiful tones, the rich warm sepia tones are great. I do wish that you would have moved to the right just a little so her face didn't come right on the edge of the monument. Other than that you have a great picture. Don.

Young history, but charming and interesting as well. I like the composition and the tones, the background is very rich but not distracting, it adds a lot to the image, as usual in your photos. I?m not sure about her position, while her face shows up very much, instead a part of the figure is mixed up with the background. However this is only a little point, it is a very beautiful photo! Bye Max

Hugs everyone, your comments are a treasure, I sincerely mean that.
Stefan(lol...of course! You keep me on my toes and I appreciate that), Emanuele and Becky mention wishing she stood out more, or lighter background. I must put a disclaimer in and say as she is this 'being' in this cemetery it was our wish to have her sort of be 'one' with her surroundings.
Becky, I will soon get back with you on your question of printing. I did print the previous image on watercolour paper and was amazed how even more detail stood out. So I think it will print out well. I am finally wising up and doing this work on large files with printing in mind.
Mary thanks for the thumbs up on the camera. I WISH even more now! ;) I have lurked in cemetaries since I was a teen, and agree with you and Shelby.:)

I have to agree with Stefan. I feel the same way I did about your Cobblestone photo - that the subject is on the verge of being lost in the background. That background is so perfectly textured and toned though, so I suppose (in magical time-machine land) a repositioning of the subject would be better.
Just out of curiosity, do you make prints of your PS'ed images? Do they turn out well, with all the subtleties of the digital files?
Beautiful work - your images are always inspiring. :)

Gorgeous treatment. Good that you avoid her face and left it pure and untouched...I've done cemetaries too - there is a strange appeal...Shelby Koning said (and I agree) "until we realize and embrace the idea of death we cannot embrace life."
BTW I looked at your portfolio after reading a comment you made to Dave Martinidez about shopping and considering this camera...I would recommend it! I would love more (you know the really, really expensive ones) but for the price - I honestly don't think this one can be beat and once you have this you can focus on buying lenses...

It is a beautiful scene with many strong elements which keeps my interest for a long time. The appeal to Victorian times is entirely consistent with the treatment. Cemetaries are cliche in this "gothic" style but this rises above the fray. The different tones in the sky behind those black silhouetted trees harmonize with the tones of the ground to create a fine backdrop to the monument and the woman. I have a minor nit (of course) - I think a ligther background behind the woman would have separated her a little better. The texture looks very much like you did this with liquid emulsion on the very paper you photographed to create the texture :-)
