@ hugo d.w. & @all:
right, it's plastic bars (ptfe), which are 'optically active' (pvc is better, but not available in bars). therefore i intended to show the frozen stress of the flow lines. the screw is tightened very strongly, then you can see the colors. the object ist placed between two perpendicularly rotated polarizing filters, the transmitting light source (flash) facing towards the camera. i did this 'photoelasticity' photography ever since i made photographs, with lots of objects from a household.

Very interested effect! Are those beams plastic? and did you use a polarising filter? A polarising filter is commonly used in the polymer industry to examine the flow lines in an injection moulded product, it does show the stresses in the material. Looks very much like this, only the colours are way more vivid and intense! Extremely well done! I wonder how you achieved this effect in greater detail; did you create this on purpose?
