About Scanning this picture seems a little difficult. It ends up too red on my monitor. Has anyone suggestions to improve my scanning technique?

Nice coloures, but look over saturated!, and uder exposed, try less Red under the RGB mode or contrast it a little, :)

Wouter,
Have you checked your monitor settings? Also, if you haven't already done so, check umax.com for any new updated drivers and software for your scanner. You may also check the monitor's manufacturer site to see if they have an updated driver for your monitor.
Anyway, I like your photo.

Thank you for your comments and suggestion on my close-up shot.
Best wishes,
Jimmy

Wouter,

Gelukkig is fotografie iets subjectiefs.

Een gelukkig 2004!

Scanners are a pain in the butt. : ) if you are using photoshop, or something simlar, I noticed that I always have to increase the contrast a bit, play with the levels, etc. But it's almost always dissapointing. :) I attached a old picture of mine I scanned in. It still looks nothing like it's suppose to.... but for this, I darkened the blacks, using "selective color" in photoshop, increased the contrast, brought the levels up to par, and I belive that's it! Good luck, just play with them unti you get the effect you are looking for! AS you can see, it's still a little off!

As for your picture above, I like the idea, although I would have placed him off to the side, or somewhere other than directly in the center; Or, leave him in the center, and crop it a bit tighter. Of course, this is all my un-professional opinion. : )

regardless, I Hope it helps!

I have problems with scanning slides as well.

But yesterday I found a few interesting articles here on usefilm. I think that reading those will improve your scans.

Especially for the color, read : Before you Cogitate, Calibrate!
by Ray Wearn. It handles monitor calibration.

Have fun with playing the scanner and monitor settings.
