Sandy...you have a fantastic portfolio...edgy, up front, and almost archetypal. I really enjoy viewing your work. Charles

I think this is a great portrait, but IMO the striking details in this photo are your mouth and the cigarette, not the eyes, so it seems to me that you are not maximizing its potential when you emphasize them. To me, a case of "simpler is better" sometimes.

this is a nice portrait of a beautiful girl,Sandy, and I like the software approach you've chosen. At first I thought it would be better to include your eyebrows in the frame, but then it might weaken the effect your 'green eyes' have being the topmost element in the picture. regards,Kostas

Sandy,
This is a wonderful image. Probably you? Great composition and use of texture. I don't think that the eyes are too saturated.

sandy, i see a lot of self portraits here but this one i don't like too much. by the conversion(s) the picture must have lost some quality on the way.

Nice!!!!
I thought you was crying from the thumb nail.

For the cloning, try it on a new layer but sampleing it from the base(image)layer and stamp away. You can alway adjust the opacity or blen option or blurr or what ever. This way you don't have to worry about going back and may be add some noise...clone tool tend to soften what ever it's stamping.

Very nice picture Sandy. I've played a little with photoshop to try add the cigarette light and reached the conclusion it's difficult indeed but you only need very little red (even if it's just a few pixels) for the effect to be (unconciously) visible.

Beautiful self-portrait of a beautiful girl! I love the expression and the lighting. I'm not sure about the green eyes. They are striking, but I can't help feeling the image would be even better without. But .... hey, we've got to try these things.

The cigarette.... I'm amazed you haven't had a barrage of abuse from the politically correct moral majority in the US. Personally I don't smoke, but there is something quite sexy about the cigarette in this image. It simply wouldn't be as strong without it. Quite right to avoid the glowing tip. Keep the attention focussed on the eyes. Nice to meet you too :)

Funny... Because, if all things were considered equal anyhow but there're not, considering some sort of abstract physical reasons, this could be me !

Richard Marriner   {K:6657} 10/14/2003
Yep this works, striking portrait. I like the crop, grain, PS eyes, expression etc. Not sure the "hairy eye" thing is much of a problem really, but if there were a few more of them they might look a little less accidental?
If you did want to add a red glow to the cigarette (which might look a little naff anyway?) the best way is to overlay the original colour one like you did with the eyes. (May use a 2nd shot where you were inhaling so as to make it glow a bit more). To spread the glowing effect a little, you could use a bit of gaussian blur on a masked area around the tip. Then fade it a bit before merging the layers. One of my best friends (from "Barfly" photo) has quit for the past 3 months, so if he can do it anyone can, believe me!
BTW, I replied to your message last week and have just received an auto reply back saying it was undelivered. Yahoo mailbox full? So I just re-sent.

Hey Sandy,
You've got a great portrait here. It helps being not so tough on the eyes, and your photoshop work with the eyes adds a lot. I wonder if it would be even better if the eyebrows could be seen....Nice job!

Beautiful portrait, Sandy. I like the colour of the eyes, even if it isn't real.
I don't mind at all the lot of saturation on the eyes and the too light left part of the face. They make it an artistic image. What is distracting and a little disturbing are the few hairs on the right side. It looks as if they are coming out from the eyes
Great shot, though
Regards

sandy c. hopkins   {K:17107} 10/12/2003
ya know i tried doin that but it looked really bad...lol
got any tips on makin a red glow look glowy and not like a smudge?
lol
thanks by the way...
:)

Craig Hanson   {K:7836} 10/12/2003
Very Nice Sandy! How about adding a red glow to the cigarette while you're at it?

  0

sandy c. hopkins   {K:17107} 10/12/2003
self portrait..
i always wanted one a bit dramatic..
:)
perhaps i will use a bit less saturation and try again...
i used no burn tool ..
but i did use the dodge around the eye color to add some hightlight..
thanks for the comments...
hope you are enjoying your day..
:)

nice.
I agree with mr.ppdix about the sturation. but I like the grayscale, and I have not made sure If I like that the left part of the face is burned out or not. I't kind of gives a sertain effect.

ppdix  ppdix     {K:17069} 10/12/2003
A little less saturation on the eyes could have worked better, in my opinion.

Is that a self-portrait or another Sandy?

:-)
