About These are the 3 stones you can see in the background of yesterday's posting.Again, for me, the blue filter lends a certain atmosphere to the scene. The silence was broken a few moments later when a flock of sheep(750-the goatherd informed me !) lined up along the water's edge for a drink- not for a photo:they scattered as soon as they saw me approaching! That's a photo I have to go back for.

Blue. I love that colour.
Excellent composition. I'm not usually yoo keen on colour filters, but this kind of shots make me want to try them.

Hey Tony, yep, the attachment is straight. Although now you will get comments that the attached image has a cut off mtn top, that is when you can throw your hands up in the air and yell uhhhhhh! lol. Well, you mention you can get back to this spot, great opportunities.
Anyhow, you are welcome, and by the way, I do like this, it is very serene and calming, intense color. I have enjoyed and learned from a great deal of your work.
And don't listen to Vince, he's had too much Hawaiian sun today...kidding Vince :)

After seeing them side to side...I still like the first one better. It is angled more artistically in my opinion. But since I am in the minority, I think I will have that steak dinner tonight.

See what one little match can start. There is no clear (true horizon) in this photograph. If you look at the shoreline, yes it is tilted. Then you look at the mountains immediately behind the lake, and yes they are tilted the other way. But, in my opinion they balance each other perfectly. However, since many others are distracted by the supposed tilt here, I would suggest that you go out to eat a big steak dinner tonight.

Tony,

Looks like I started a firestorm :)

or you could just leave it as is and call it Blue Abstract Landscape ;-)

Hi Tony, I am sure you are tiring of all this chatter about your image being tilted but I will share what I have learned regarding landscapes.
On this image, It is the shoreline that should be the focus of straightening, not the tops of the mountains. Mountains of course are naturally sloping, different heights, etc. but when a shoreline is sloped just as this, it appears the world is tilted and that the image is going to slip right off the page. It took me awhile to get to know exactly where to straighten a landscape, and thanks to a few dialogues such as this regarding a few of my images, I think I have it straight now. There is of course exceptions to this, but I do think that this is an obvious one where it requires straightening based on the shoreline.

I agree with you Tony. The lake is tilted, but I do not see the horizon as being so. It looks just right to me. But remember, I have had a few tilted horizons myself so my advice to you might not really be worth too much on this subject.

I have to agree with Bob & Ken that it's tilted. I've attached a copy with a line following the shoreline.

That which is straight is the tops of the mountains, which are beautifully aligned with the top of the frame.

Also, I played around with the border, black, blue, etc. and although I don't have the right shade in my "playing around", I think a dark, dark purple would do well to bring out the slight shade of purple in the boulders. 'Course, you wouldn't be able to match it to any household decor, but... :-)

PS: I LOVE the picture's tone and colours, and I really liked the dry brush effect in the other in this series. Great creativity.

Thanks for all your comments. No Bob 'the tilt' wasn't intentional and I'm not altogether sure it is tilted ,maybe it's some kind of optical illusion because when you look at the mountains on the horizon in the background they don't look tilted.Funnily enough I thought it might be tilted before posting and asked my son to have a look and he too said no, look at the horizon.Anyway I'll probably be there again soon to 'shoot' the sheep so I'll shoot it again.

Tony,

I really enjoy your work, and this one as well except for the tilt....I know your stuff well enough to know you probably shot it at this angle intentionally.

Can you share why?

Bob

Wonderful mood. I really like the sense of serenity this shot evokes. The blue is much more pleasing in this one. Although it is still a tad too saturated for me. The composition is perfect. The three stones are well-framed and I really like the distant background. The tilt is quite distracting though. And it doesn't go well with the peaceful mood.

This is a great shot. Beautifully composed. The entire frame is used, in my opinion, exceptionally well. How did it look framed in black?? Just curious. Gotta run, I am feeling a bit...um, you know kind of....I won't say it....
