Funny, people are giving this low ratings...because of the subject matter! Let me go through the things and say what I think one by one: 1. Composition. Not so bad, as it shows a mess, and it shows it effectively. 2. Lighting. If you were rtying to simulate daylight, it didn't work. The light has a trypical on-camera flash look - intensity is concentrated in front of the camera and fals off rapidly as you get further away. On the other hand, the lighting suits the subject - grungey. 3. Originality: original subject, yes. Original treatment...not very, since it looks as if you just stood in front of the scene and aimed the camera and pressed the button. But I can't think of any alternatives. 4. emotional appeal: Actually, it has tons of emotional appeal. What people mean when they down-rate is that they don't like thew subject matter. 5. Overall: I like this photo, it makes me think. The very simple snap-shot style suits the subject matter. Yes, I like it.
