Jim, my wife and I just looked at all your photographs and they are wonderful. She really enjoys birds and your pics made her home sick for where we use to live and enjoyed lots of bird watching. I don't know what your photographs were like before your transition to digital but this are pretty awesome. Thank you for sharing.

They are pretty little birds. We have them here this summer. Guess we have a lot of thistles. Nice picture with great detail. Bird focus is just a bit off but it is very nice anyway. Don.

So lovely, this whole composition! You are right about focus more on the thistels, but I don't think that has to be something negative. I think that adds a nice nature feeling, you know as it is many times when you see a bunch of branches and then a hidden bird behind. I think this is beautiful! And Ps. Your worry about not getting my canon wet... Hihi... I am hoping in secret that something bad would happen to it, so I could have a reason to buy a new better one, like a G5 or something! ;-) This little ixus is great, I can take it with me everywhere because it's suits in just a pocket. But it's limited things I can do.

Still a nice shot Jim-- the finch is sharp enough, but I can see what you mean-- that one thistle head is very sharp.

Both the thistles and the bird are very good subject...a bit tough on the eyes as you try to pick the main subject in this one...still I like the image..wildlife is great, so glad you shared this. That long lens really makes a great background!

Another nice shot of this Finch, Jim. Auto focus, what is that!!!!!! Wish his head would have been facing towards the camera. Other than that, this image has superb saturation and colors, had to be a great light at that time. This is also a good exhibition of a wild bird feeding in his natural environment. I have never seen any bird feeding on thistles, just bees and butterflies. I also have to give you credit on a perfect background on this one.
