I have to agree that the composition on this doesn't give the feeling of climbing. (I am a climber, BTW.) For all we know, the person could simply standing next to a rock wall. If you would have taken the shot from an extemely low angle, you might have been able to include his feet off the ground without being off the ground youself.

Sarah, he's actually only about 10 to 15 feet off the ground. That's actually why I framed it the way I did. (I don't climb, so, I couldn't get this angle if he was higher up.) How would you guys suggest cropping this?

The framing could be better. There is a lot of empty space and i think the horizontal orientation is not used optimally. Maybe you could focus on the face/hands, or frame the whole body vertically.

Nice clear image. My brother is a climber so I see quite a lot of images like this one. How far off the ground is the climber?
