It is estimated that at the time of contact with the Western world the native population of the Hawaiian islands was eight hundred thousand people. I was told that at the last census only six thousand people claimed to be pure Hawaiian. There are, however, spiritual adepts who carry forward the unbroken spiritual linage of Hawaiian culture. This image is of a Kumu Hula, a chanter of Hawaiian genealogy. If you wonder why my Hawaiiana images differ so greatly from my usual light, reflective images, it is because I am trying to impart the ancient, mystical aura of Hawaiian spirituality. Aloha, Uldra
