IN ANGLO-SAXON "MISTLE" MEANS DUNG AND "TAN" MEANS TWIG. A BIRD WILL EAT THE STICKY BERRIES AND IF HE PASSES THEM IN A SUITABLE BRANCH THEY WILL PRODUCE THIS PARASITE. MISTLETOE HAS SEVERAL WITCHES BROOM CONTEXT AND IT HAS BEEN USED IN MEDICINE. A CANCER CURE,CIRCULATORY AND RESPIRETORY RELIEF. THE AFRAIN NAVIES WOULD CHEW THE BERRYS AND ROLL IT IN THEIR HANDS TO MAKE A STICKY PASTE THAT WHEN THE BIRDS CAME DOWN TO EAT IT THEY GOT STUCK. A MULTIPURPOSE PLANT.

Thanks for the information Ernie. I didn't realize that Mistletoe was a parasite.

Mistletoe is a pine tree parasite. The parasite builds up pressure in the tree enought that it literally explodes sending spore seed many feet. If the infestation is small then the infected branches can be prunned and burned. It caused the trees to have reduced growth and makes a disorganized growth called witches broom. As far as getting rid of the mistletoe if the tree is dying then its best to destroy thats my opinion.

Great shot and information. Now how do they get rid of the infestation so the pine tree doesn't die?
