when you use the widest open, many cameras has a single central cross-type point for focusing (the most accurate) (no idea if this is true for the D700), in this case, because the subject is out of the center, perhaps camera got confused

yah doc you r right on the aperture. it was wide open. might be thats the reson. infact Jpeg conversion might also be a reason... hmmmmm

uhmm, I think is not a question of how sharpen is your prime, probably very sharp, but where is the sweet focus, to me it is not in his eyes but even after a careful examination in PS I can not say where it is, all of his face looks a bit defocused, sometimes very open apertures produces a soft focus but other alternative like jpg conversion could be possible
what do yo think?

Doc.. do you need sharper than this? this is 24 mm prime.I dont see any problem in face as far as focus is concerned. but may be a bit of yellow patch appeared somehow. Dont know if thats because of PP. Sometimes these priests put turmeric on them!!
let me know doc... cause if its not sharp then i need to think about 24 prime's capability.
