About
Milwaukee, Wisconsin is situated on the western shoreline of Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan is the largest fresh water lake totally within the borders of the United States. The States the Lake touches are: Wisconsin, Illinois (near Chicago), Indiana and well, Michigan. (Mish-ih-gen) MM and I were in Milwaukee a few days ago, visiting some great friends. Don and Wendy Rappe(Rah-pay) Wendy is a teacher with a Masters in monastic studies and Don has a PhD in religious philosophy and a minor in religious archaeology. Don loved and laughed over my pic of Jesus wearing my Cub hat… Don also gave me a great beer (Sprecher Abbey Triple) in a glass with a pic of a Scotsman on it… yes, he read the Rant. Anyway, we all went (Don, me and MM… who all three went to high school together… and Wendy… his wife, an outsider from Minnesota {Min-uh-sota}) to a pub on the shore of Lake Michigan. While there I was all over taking pics of sailboats and such. Ya see, I live in L-ih-noy, where there are few lakes and even fewer chances to see sailboats. What I do see everyday are barges. Barges are flat, long and ugly boats that transport grain and such. I see barges every stinking day. So while at the restaurant, I was sitting and stuff and Wendy suddenly hit me on the shoulder and said, “Get your camera ready!” “Why?” “A barge is coming!!!!” I guess the fact I live in Barge Heaven was not obvious to her. I looked about. People (obviously from Milwaukee) were standing on tables and fixing their cameras on the strange and wondrous “barge” chugging into Milwaukee harbor. I held firm and refused to take a pic of a lowly barge… but I did ask Don to stand out over by there and point to the barge… and I took a pic of him feigning excited-surprise. I also took a pic of people taking a pic of the barge.
