Thank you for your explanation Saad. Very interesting to know more about all this and better understand the three types of different materials used here in your picture: marble, terra-cotta and the very special Tizz stones.
my best regards once more, Paul

thank you Paul, the three stones here are brought from the shores of river Tigris, just 20 KM south of Mosul,I know this cause I have collected few of them for my house when I was 6 to 10 years old,we called them TIZZ locally, they should be flat and wide,we used them till the present time in our kitchens,we have a dish called Dolma, consist of rice, meat, garlic, black pepper, grind ed tomato, and onion all raped by fresh grape leafs and embedded in a cocking pot, added water, oil, and sumac, and after they arrange every thing in the pot, they put some four to five stones over the ingredient to prevent the ingredient from floating, and they removed the stones when the soup evaporates, till the present date every house in Mosul should have at least five stones,
btw, every other stone you see in this shot is marble, other than the pots and the Tizz,
my regards,

I like the atmosphere in a good historical document.
Because you focused on it, do you know where these blue stones were used for? Is there any link with the three pots?
best regards,
Paul
