Thanks a lot for the encouragement and helping hints, Harry! They are very welcome, though not directly appliable to me.

Whatever my inner world looks like, I am not the person that demonstrates that to people around for achieving something. Only real good friends are allowed to come that close. For all others this is a tabu zone. Name it my own way of being, name it my problem, or whatever. This will not change.

But it is not about my "nervous feelings" or my "fragility" - it is because I *have* to respect the red line of other people as much as I demand other people to respect mine. Thus, a good image of somebody on the street has to show him/her in his/her own character but never to put him/her in a glass and examine him/her under the microscope. This fine line between photography and voyerism is not a matter of some simple recipe. It is a matter of social education, and it is a matter of humanistic approach. I can't abandon this even for the best image.

Which means that I need first time in order to get a bit more of that ability to approach people sincerely for a shot, but also without tresspassing into regions which are definitely not meant for me to know. Some people - I guess you are one of them - have that kind of respect burned in. For them it feels easy to not violate other human beings. But it is not easy for itself. It is more that such people have that kind of gift - right out of their DNA if you wish.

Imagine me going to somebody and asking for a shot. In general I am very direct, very extreme in such things. I don't introduce myself, I don't say anything else than "Would you stand there for a shot?" This is too... direct, you don't approach people with the scientific "dry" way to formulate things. The result would be likely to annoy, or even to insult without wanting it. So you see, I must be patient in learning to not "invade" but rather to invite other people for a photography. I am confident that I'll get it in a short time - aboout two centuries will be enough, I guess! ;-)

Cheers and thanks again!

Nick

You can do it ! Be honest, such a handsome man and so charming for the ladies :-) :-)

A good thing to do is to really show you are nervous and fragile, yell " i am a bit shy but i want to learn this ' and the ladies will give you a soft hand !

You can do it Nick, I KNOW !

I just try it, Harry.

But there is also much experience in that "just doing" things. With time and all the encouragement by you and the other good guys here, I'll get it too.

Cheers!

Just be yourself, show interest and then it works like a natural flow. The shot ' walking the dog' I had no chance to talk to the owner, it was a matter of a well estimated guess and i was right, he didnt care at al,

jUST do it ;-)

Hmmm... what kind of "shoot" were the girls ready for, you little dirty man, ey? ;-)

But seriously now, you name it. It takes more than just photographical skills. One has to know how to approach people, to join them, respect their characters, and all of that. So, I guess that photographing persons has also a social component. You can't just pop up out of nothing and declare somebody to be your model. It takes sensitivity and also social experience, social education. And this ismmy weak point. I am too... direct, too "strictly logical" for that.

It is not as much that I want to "foresee" the situation, Harry. It is rather that I don't want to come too near to somebody, and gove him/her the impression that I would robe their dignity for my photography. This point is quite hard for me - I simply don't manage to generate the needed human and trusty atmosphere between me and some potantial nice face. I'll keep on asking you about that in future, when I will be about trying some portraits on the street.

Thanks a lot and cheers!

Ive been working on those girls on the market for a year, talk talk flatter talk talk. After a year they were ready for the shoot. A talk of 15 minutes will do for less sensitive persons. But in some cases you can not make happen what you could not foresee. Then it is a matter of capturing what is happening and anticipation on the possibilities.

The last statement of yours in your message I can only call "practical social wisdom", Harry. So it is. One second is too short a time for a real contact wuth some other human being.

As for the situation about his sudden appearance, I can only second you too. They always pop up out of nothing and my greek mind is so quick that is gets also quickly frustrated! ;-)

Oh well... You know, I wonder about the guys that are able to just snap a shot of some inknien guy right in milliseconds and also manage to receive a smile for that. How do they do that? Is that only photographic skill or is it also being able to cause the sympathy of the photographed person? Anyway... I seem to not be able to learn how to do that.

BTW, Andre Dennis told me some time ago that a good method would be to tell the guy that you would like to take an image of the dog. This makes the owners happy and whole they stand friedly bedie their pet you can take also them into the image. But still it is jus a second or two, and as you said it is simply too fast.

Cheers!

Nick

I prefer the posted version Harry because I like the details in the field's furrows. Great monochromatic tones to this composition and when we go on a candid hunt we get rear views side views or any view we can grab Well done to you my friend it is a lovely atmospherical study. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

It all happened so sudden, I was concentrated on the landscape and when he asked I though s.h.i.t. he will disturb but then I quickly saw the opportunity and made this shot. A greek would have immediately come up with your idea but my slow dutch brain needed 5 minutes. By that tine he was gone.
Plus I think it was to much for hom too. I learn that talking 5 minutes to a person will open all doors, 1 sec is a bankrobbery.

But why didn't you ask the guy to go back some steps and start walking again, so that you could get him freom the front? Would that be a bit too much for the guy?

Cheers!

Thanks Nick, fully agree with your comment. Usually this place is EMPTY, nobody comes here. I was ready to shoot the landscap when this guy asked if he would disturb when passing the path. Immediately I said NO, go ahead he would make a fine subject. Alas I would starve to death if i had to wait for someone approaching me on the path ... hahahah

It is good for the perspective and the lighting, Harry. The two are matching each other very well. The leading lines of the field and the way enhance the peace that is conveyed.

The lighting balance ate up some possible details and contrast of the head of the guy against the background forest. The dog on the other hand appears perfect on my monitor. Well defined contours and good details.

You have captured much of the atmosphere with this one.

BTW, what about some similar shots but taking the people from the front?

Cheers!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL work... the focus is PERFECT... you manage to get lot of area in good focus here, to add the feeling of distance here, plus that I LOVE the deepness of the tones, that element always adds on the moods of the photos.
