ya I thought it had a certain weird feel to it as wel. I'm not sure about the crop but i will try it. what i was thinking is that it needs a touch of fill light to boost the foreground.
I'll try a few things and see it we can improve it

Looks like the sort of place to make a teen horror movie. Perhaps the trees and water are a little too balanced and a bit of a crop at the bottom of the frame would have more effect.
