Yes, it sound reasonable to me, Stan. Exactly the same happened to me so many times. I was thinking of oversharpening but I was told the opposite by the poster of the image. So it was quite a mystery to me, but now it seems to be solved. One just has to check "no sharpening" when uploading, for keeing the own version of the image.

Cheers!

Nick

Nick, I read a comment by someone in an image comment that mentioned that their image was over sharpened and that they had pulled it and then checked none. That was the problem as the site adjusted the image a second time. I have had a couple of images look over sharp and I think this was why.

Now, *this* I call a valuable information, Stan! I really though it was for declaring how much sharpening one has applied! And since I don't do such things I always marked the option "None". This made me a bit of wondering why it is the sharpening that they want to know about, when there are dozens of things that can be tweaked in addition. But what you say really makes sense! This is the very explanation why such things happen!

I think you should tell that all other users of UF too. It's very important, and I giess that most people still think that this is only meant as a "declaration" of how much sharpening one did priorly to uploading, while it is something completely different. Perhaps you should mention that in the discussion forum?

Cheers and thanks a bunch!

Nick

Nick, something I just realized is that there is sharpening of the image by the UF download program. I thought that the image sharpening dialogue was if you sharpened it, but actually it is asking for the level that they sharpen it. I have started selecting none. Hope you have a great day, I am off to work.

It must have been a very good session, Stan. Such sessions that simply go easily are the best for me too.

I didn't think that you have sharpened that. It only *looks* like that at the already mentioned places. I had that too so many times and still I don't have any idea about how/when this happens. So we just keep on geeting some more insight as the time passes by, I guess.

Cheers!

Thanks Wolf, I will give that a try. I am sure Gregg will let me take some more. He had some ideas before we even started. This was one of the ones that his mom really liked. The cattails for a background. The face is to light but I think I can play with that.

Just and id, make a real close up of his face , just make a 20 frontals and let him tell when he is ready, he should be in control .

Thanks Nick, I have the privilege of knowing this family well and Gregg was very comfortable working with me. We were thinking of some good poses and backgrounds. got some cool shots. I actually did not sharpen this image. I added a little contrast and checked levels.Time will take care of some of my technical flaws. Did not realize the amount of things to be aware of and be shooting to.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the suggestions. I was so intent on position, focus, light etc. This was a crop from a larger image of him kneeling by an old window of a log cabin. Thanks for the POV of this. So helpful. You are a good friend to help.

Thanks Saad, no turning around now. Fun to see what I could do without having the experience. Much to learn but a start none the less.

This is your... *first* portrait session, Stan? Kidding me? Well if this is your first, the I must really fear your potential in future when it comes to portraits - hey, any possibility to give me some lessons??? :-D

This image has combined the atmosphere of those "aged" documentary-like shots that we can look at 50 years later and have that strange feeling of "visitor" form the past, and the indefinite conviction that we could just as well talk to the person itself. In the technical sense there are indeed some problems here and there, like for example the signs of a starting oversharpened look (hair right to the left of the ear), or the somewhat "digitized" eye contours. But the thing is that the overall atmosphere really takes overhand over the more technical details, which is also why I am stunning when you say that this is your first approach to portraits. Even the lighting attenuations seem to contribute to the overall look and feel, not to speak about the timing that got such a very distinct moment.

Some guys seem to get it immediately!

A good first time session, Stan! Possibly if he were a little farther from the background so it would be out of focus, and a little more room for him to "look into", on the left hand side. Otherwise a very nice pose and expression.
Dave.

Thanks Julie, did not have any gear as far as reflectors, lights etc. This was a north light shot under covered roof. No flash. I am attaching the one he liked for you to see as well. He had a lazy eye and I was trying to find a way to make it work. I need to go to class with you!! thanks for your help and honesty. He is a wonderful kid. I finished his families house for them and got to know him on a daily basis.
Be well, the GG

Thanks Mitra, I appreciate that. It is a new process for me but I decided to go for it. He ask me to do his senior pictures and I was glad to give it a go. This was not one of the ones the family narrowed down. I worked it this AM to see what I could come up with.
Be well and thanks, Stan

You did a really nice job GG. The lighting ratio is excellent, a little more light in his eye would have made this even better but I think it is great anyway. Despite the fact that he is not looking directly at the camera, you were still able to capture what I would think to be a quiet/shy boy. Nice work my friend.
Be well, don't work too hard.
RG :)
