I there a serious risk a pack would close you in on the mountains ? I can recall a story they robbed a baby from the porch somewhere, 10 years ago ?
Be careful, Harry

Hi Harry, after that incident I have a 22 rifle accessible near the door. I would only use to protect the dog if necessary or if I was even home.
The wolfs here are really cleaning the deer and elk populations down. They are killing machines. There is a pack of at least five that I have seen twice this year from a distance.
Be well, Stan

Must have been an alfa male. Can imagine the fear of the dog. Do you carry a gun in case you get trapped in a wolf-pack ? They are smart, I read.

I have not had to play dead yet but I would if I had too. One of the wolfs were in my yard chasing a dog this spring. Did not know my dog could move so fast!
It was a big grey male. When he saw me he turned and left. My dog came to my feet and was trembling for a while. The dog was like a shadow for days afterwards.

I understand. I learned that "acting being dead" is the best defense, not run away. Watch your odor and the wind direction ! A black bear is also a killer I learned. The pack of wolves is nice though, guess they are afrais for humans * when they are single *

Hi Harry, this is the only bear I would want to be this close to. I saw a Grizzly last spring behind my place but did not broadcast my position. They are to be respected. I have only seen some black bears in the Tobacco Roots. None this year. I have a pack of wolves that live near and often hear them howling in the morning and at night.

Thanks Keith, I took some of the rusted color out to make it a little more dramatic. I love the hand placed metal hair and detail on this bear. Be well, Stan

Thanks Stan, I built a small auto teller building some years ago and then they put this sculpture next to the building. I did the concrete work for the footings of this bear, two cubs two pack horses and an outfitter. It is a series of sculptures that Jim Dolan was commissioned to do by the bank that owns the park.

Thanks Dave. the sculpture is 9 foot high and was a camera full to capture and still get the detail. I cloned a building out of the left side of the image. I have a ways to go to perfect my cloning ability but I thought the image looked better with the green around his head.
Be well, Stan

Good capture of the detail and texture, Stan! I like the crop and dof, too.
Dave.
