Hi Laurie, missed seeing you around! Glad to see some post from you. Thanks for the comment. Yes this great grandpa has it going on, sometimes faster than I can keep up with. Glad to share some Big Sky with you. The clouds are some of my best models. Do take care and be well, Stan

Thanks Joe, no negativity felt here on the shot. Just do not have the tech side down yet. I am still reading the camera manual to figure out all of the features. I pick a page or two on different features and then try them out. This picture was with a polarizing filter and shot in color. Earlier in the day I was shooting B/W after I found the right place in the menu to do it. I have just about found all of the options and feel fairly comfortable with my little Rebel. It has been a great start for me to have a decent camera and get the results I have. I like the fact that you honestly critique the image and say what you see. That is what helps to improve and know what to look for. When I shot this into the sun I was trying to catch it when the sun was covered to avoid the lens ghost or aberrations. I appreciate the suggestions and the encouragement. Be well, Stan

Stan, I hope it didn't sound as though I was coming across too negative or critical on this shot. It is very good and considering the subject matter I suspect you could not have avoided some blow out in the brightest areas. You are almost shooting directly into the sun. Sometimes such as this shot, these blown out area can not be avoided and add to the dramatic impact of the image. Being an engineer I often get too carried away with the technical aspects of photography at the expense of the artistic side which is what we are really after here. Joe

Joe, I post out of the camera most of the time. I am going to do burn and dodge on photoshop after talking to a friend tonight that said I had a 5 minute lesson on him. He is a PS guru and offered his service to my lack of tech expertise. I get caught in the drama and impact at this point. The refinements are not far away. Thanks for the comment and the encouragement. To err is human and to screw up is divine. I think time is still on my side. Be well, Stan

I was born in 1946, Sept 13 on Friday at 4:14 Am. First baby born that day and have I ever paid for it. I have had 5 hole in ones and only two divorces. What more could a poor boy ask for!!! I was conceived somewhere between Happy, Texas and Ventura ,California. I am glad you liked the Boy Scout pic. Was taken with my first camera by my Dad, started out with a Kodak Brownie. I will post my first pictures of the Rose Parade in B/W when I find them. Low tech and proud of it. Be well, Stan

Very dramatic shot Stan, although a little blown out in one area I really like the this shot. It is so dynamic. Well done my friend. Btw Stan, if you were 11 in '48 you must be about one year older than me. Regards, Joe

Bruce, thanks! There are more clouds around here than beautiful models so they are my subjects and the sun is my alien bee and soft box. Light is fun to explore from all sources. Be well, Stan

You caught me, I just changed that yesterday. I was 11 at the time and well on my way to Eagle Scout. Do you like the official flashlight that I bought with my own money, I was so proud of it. Glad you noticed, I had just scanned that recently when going through a box of pictures I got from my mom's garage after she died a few years ago. I had not looked at much of them until I was cleaning out my artifacts of life, mine and hers. Be well, Stan.

Morning Julie, these clouds and sky are my models. I am surrounded by a constantly changing beauty that I try to capture and share. Almost feel guilty if i do not pass some of this along. I tried a polarizing filter on this one and seems to cut glare and emphasize the rays and golden lining. Loved that portrait of Sabri. Great start. You are a ray of sunshine for me as well as great UF friend. Be well and shoot well, the ancient GG.
