About I was lucky to see this guy, as I was riding my bike, and looked up to see a storm damaged tree, after a couple of days of strong winds.

Excellent shot with good detail. How do you get then to stay once you stop and point your camera. My luck is they always fly just before I can snap the shot.

First of all, excuse me for the repeated replies to your comment, Dave! I dodn't realize that the reply *was* added on the webpage despite the fact the reaction of the UF-server was to give me an error message. I had better inspect the webpage of my image before trying and trying again and again to reply your comment.

On your image now, and I hope that the server problems will not appear again. Well.. perfect!! Just look at the mathcing of the textures of the owl and the wood of the branches! Don't we see the natural game of camouflage here? Oh yes, we do! And how we do! The exactly depicted feathers on the chest/belly of the bird seem to be a well designed copy of the texture of the tree, which was also perfectly burned on your CCD! We see how things go on nature. It's just seemlessly integrate into your surroundings, or unfortunately.. die! That stealthy hunter, as the result of evolution, is perfectly fitted to its own world. Come out of nothing, strike quickly, and disappear again! Kind of guerrilla, one might say too, but it's efficient for surviving. And as long as nature doesn't care about any kind of additional "morals", it remains as successful, and provides us with all those winderful, stealthy, clever living beings that we can capture as they *are*! In this discipline you excelled here, Dave!

From the more technical point of view it is a very original composition too. It somehow puts that bird into the very center of interest. Not only because its details are so perfectly painted. And alsonot only because it's so exclusively separated from its camouflaging background! But also because it is just shown as any eventual (and lucky) viewer would see it, right out of nothing. Sitting on the branch and from a low angle, as it scans the horizon for prey or also danger!

Nature as natural as it can be! Extra points for your readiness to shoot!

Another brilliant photo, Dave. I don't think we see many of these around here. Or maybe I'm just not observant enough.
