About	I took a dirt road close to Loxton and around a bend in the road this mixture of textures and colours greeted me. Could not resist to stop! During fieldwork last year (2007), I spent quite a while in the Karoo and never had the time to really do anything with the photos I took. This is one of a series which I will update over time. As in the Karoo itself, one needs space and time to contemplate on its expanse, beauty and impact on yourselve. So I would like to introduce you slowly over time to one of the most captivating areas of South Africa - so often overlooked by tourism in favour of the dramatic and immediate splendour of so many other beautiful sights here. The beauty of the Karoo lies deeper than the skin - it needs time spent there to appreciate the vast expanses, the colours, natural textures and contrasts and even more the people. The Karoo grows on you as you spend time there, I just hope my photographs can do some justice to the place.

The Karoo looks like my kind of place. We have similar looking areas here and it is over looked as well. The textures and subtle coloring at this time of the year takes time to appreciate fully. You need to take time to absorb the totality and the power. This image brings out these very things

I like the color changes here in levels into the photo and how the colours - different plants makes areas - shapes into your frame... yea, that landscape looks like an abstract texture!!!
